The Pound reached its highest level in a month versus the Dollar after U.K. retail sales surged last month.
Sterling gained against all of its 16 major peers, while government bonds fell as sales increased 1.4%% after falling a revised 0.5% in January. The median forecast was for a 0.4% rise.
Earlier this week, data showed that annual inflation accelerated last month to surpass the central bank’s 2% target for the first time in 4 years, spurring expectation that policy makers will raise rates next year. Last week BOE policy maker Kristin Forbes voted for an interest-rate increase, with some others indicating they may not be far behind her.
The Pound rose 0.15% to 1.2504 against the Dollar as of 9:50 a.m. yesterday, before falling this morning to 1.2483. The Pound fell slightly against the Euro to 1.1561.
