Pound Rises As 2018 Rate Hike Looks Likely
Sterling progressed for its first weekly increased since February and gilts fell as market expectations shifted toward tighter policy in the U.K.
Recent comments from the BOE and the forecast of UK inflation reaching 2.1% when the latest data is released tomorrow are supporting the Pound. Market pricing now signals around a 95% chance of a 25-basis-point rate increase by September next year, in comparison with just 60% on Wednesday.
It fell slightly Friday afternoon from session highs after EU officials said the bloc will only review transitional Brexit arrangements and a potential U.K. trade deal if the British government complies with an exit bill.
The Pound rose against both the Dollar and the Euro to 1.2401 and 1.1524.
