The Pound rose to its strongest level in a week against the Euro after Greece’s rejection of austerity. The Greek referendum showed 61% of voters rejected a bailout plan, raising the risk of an exit from the Euro.
Sterling has gained for from May through to June, and is also benefiting from the prospect that data this week from housing to industrial production will confirm the U.K. economy is growing.
The Pound gained 0.4% to 1.4056 against the Euro this morning, after touching 1.4172, the strongest level since June 29. It was little changed against the Dollar at 1.5571.
The yen has strengthened 3.1% against the Euro in the past month. The Yen rose to its strongest in 6 weeks against the Euro today after the Greek vote, and China’s stock market rout spurred demand for safer assets.
