The pound increased against the Euro, as the UK economy grew more than expected.
As U.K.’s improving economy and prospects of an interest-rate increase, the Pound has continued to rise since March.
It hit €1.43 for the first time since 2007 on Monday as the Greek crisis escalated.
Consumer confidence in the U.K. has jumped to its highest level in more than 15 years in June and the economy grew faster than initially predicted in the first quarter on Tuesday. The data reinforced speculation the Bank of England will be the first major central bank to tighten policy after the Federal Reserve.
Sterling gained 0.8% to 1.4114 against the Euro yesterday afternoon, after reaching 1.4308 on Monday, the strongest level since Nov. 12, 2007.
The pound has strengthened 2.2% against the Euro since the end of March, its eighth quarterly gain in a row. Sterling was little changed at 1.5726 against the Dollar on Tuesday, leaving it 6.1% stronger this quarter.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has asked for the aid from the European Stability Mechanism, according to a statement from his office. The request is to cover all of the country’s financial needs for the next two years, along with a debt-restructuring plan, the government said.
