The Pound strived towards its first quarterly gain against the Dollar in 2 years as data showed the currency’s Brexit decline delivered a double boost for the U.K. economy.
A contribution from trade saw Britain’s gross domestic product improve to an unrevised 0.7% in the fourth quarter, its fastest pace in a year. In the same period, the current-account deficit reduced to 2.4% of GDP, the least since 2011.
Sterling has had a helping hand by better-than-forecasted economic data in the past few months and the fact that markets were already excessively short of it after the EU referendum.
The Pound rose over the weekend against both the Euro and the Dollar to highs of 1.1773 and 1.2561.
