The Pound declined against all its major peers after the newspaper The Times proclaimed that U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May’s team is preparing for Scotland to potentially call for an independence referendum in March.
The U.K. currency weakened as much as 0.6% after this information was released, but on condition that it is held after the U.K. leaves the EU. Scotland voted 55% to 45% back in 2014 to remain a part of the U.K. The House of Lords also begins Monday a detailed examination of the bill authorizing May to trigger the nation’s withdrawal from the EU.
Sterling dropped 0.4% against the Dollar to 1.2410 after sliding to 1.2392, lowest level since Feb. 17. The Pound fell to 1.1728 against the Euro.
