The Bank of England policy maker Martin Weale suggested U.K. interest rates may need to rise earlier than expected. Strong wages data means that the central bank could be ready to move in August.
U.K. inflation will probably bounce back sharply toward the BOE’s 2% target as the impact of falling oil prices and a stronger Pound fade. Also a week ago, the BOE released minutes of its June meeting in which it said restraints on the economy are a warning, while data showed wages are growing at the fastest pace in almost four years.
Sterling has been rising for most of this year on speculation that the BOE will be the second major central bank, after the U.S. Federal Reserve, to tighten policy. Sterling has strengthened 6.3% in the past three months.
The Pound fell 0.3% to $1.5682 against the Dollar. It appreciated as much as 0.2% to 1.411 against the Euro.
