U.K. workers saw their real earnings fall in the first quarter for the first time since late 2014, despite unemployment falling to its lowest in more than 40 years.
Regular pay adjusted for inflation declined 0.2%. Nominal earnings slowed to growth of 2.1%, the lowest since September. The unemployment rate fell to 4.6%, the lowest since 1975.
Employment rose 122,000 to a record 31.9 million after being forecasted at 21,000 and unemployment dropped 53,000 to 1.54 million. Vacancies climbed to a record level and average hours worked remained close to their highest rates since 2002.
The fall in unemployment takes the jobless rate closer to the 4.5% that the BOE expects is the level that can be sustained without generating inflation.
The Pound rose slightly after this Data against both the Euro and the Dollar to 1.1669 & 1.2942.
