Pound Continues To Progress After Shock Election
The Pound rose versus all of its 31 major peers since lasts Friday. It’s the electoral upset in the U.S. where Donald Trump Won the election that threw markets into turbulence as traders re-examine populist movements. Traders reduced their short bets against the pound as they wait for a Supreme Court hearing scheduled for Dec. 5-8 that potentially may delay Britain’s exit from the EU.
Sterling completed its best week versus the dollar since 2009 on Nov. 4, among belief that Brexit will be slowed after a court ruled the government can’t start the process of leaving the EU without a vote from lawmakers.
Sterling climbed 0.2% to 1.2584 against the Dollar as of 8:33 a.m., and was headed for its second week of gains against the U.S currency. It rose 0.3% to 1.1559 against the Euro, set for a 2.9% increase against the single currency in the week.
