Sterling Has Best Week Since 2009

Economists are stating that sterling’s best week since 2009 is just a ‘blip’. The Pound advanced after a court ruled the U.K. can’t start the movement of exiting the EU without lawmakers’ consent; stirring belief that Brexit will be slowed.

Even after its 2.8% jump last week, to just above 1.25 against the Dollar as of the Friday market close in London, Sterling is still down 16% since the June 23 referendum.

The Pound got a further lift after the BOE said Thursday that it doesn’t expect to cut interest rates again this year. Officials left the door open to future policy adjustments, though, and with next week’s U.S. election possibly causing instability across the world, sterling still faces risks.

The Pound Rose to 1.2537 against the Dollar on Friday before dropping to 1.2386 this morning. Sterling was at 1.1268 against the Euro on Friday, now trading at 1.1213.
