The Pound strengthened for a third day against the Euro before the Bank of England announces its latest monetary policy decision today.
Sterling rose against most of its 16 major peers, extending gains made at the end of last week after the U.K. election unexpectedly produced an outright majority win for the Conservative party. While the result ended concern that drawn-out talks would be needed to form a government, the Tory victory is expected to come with less public borrowing.
The Pound rose 0.2% to €1.3822 against the Euro this morning. It surged 1.9% on Friday, the biggest gain since March 2009. Sterling fell 0.2% to $1.5428 against the Dollar after climbing to $1.5523 at the end of last week, the highest level since Feb. 26.
BOE Governor Mark Carney is expected to keep interest rates at a record-low 0.5%.
