Pound gains as UK Unemployment falls.     

The Pound strengthened against the Dollar as unemployment in the UK fell to its lowest level in 40 years and wages increased underlying an electoral boost for Prime Minister David Cameron.

While Britain’s labour market is strengthening, that’s not translating into voter support for Cameron, whose Conservatives are running neck-and-neck in opinion polls with the opposition Labour Party.

Annual wages grew excluding bonuses increased by 1.8% from February to April, from 1.6% from the previous three months. With inflation at zero, British workers are enjoying the most sustained real-pay growth since the financial crisis.

The pound climbed 0.6% to $1.5030 this morning after touching 1.5041.  Sterling strengthened against the Euro to €1.388 touching 1.3904.
