The Pound fell after a new poll showed a rise in support for the campaign to take Britain out of the EU, spooking some investors who had thought that the result was a foregone conclusion.
The U.K currency declined versus all of its 16 major peers as ICM opinion polls released yesterday showed a lead for the ‘Leave’ camp. A survey showed 45% of voters backed the brexit, 42% for ‘Remain’ and 13% were undecided, in comparison to an earlier survey which put the pro-EU camp ahead.
The Pound declined 0.9% to 1.4511 against the Dollar as of 5:37 pm., the biggest drop since May 3. It weakened 0.9% to 1.3023 against the Euro. A gauge of the pound’s one-month volatility against the Dollar climbed to 19.25%, the highest since 2009.
