President Trump said he is close to deciding on wither or not to declare a national emergency on the southern border, which he visited yesterday despite earlier reservations about taking the trip.
Trump warned before leaving the White House, he would take the steps to call a national emergency if talks with Democrats continue to crumble. The President stormed out of a meeting with Democratic leaders on Wednesday, insisting they weren't ready to deal.
The standoff has prompted a partial government shutdown that is now in its 20th day. Many federal workers will miss their first pay checks today.
Edging closer to using executive authority allowing him to repurpose federal funds for a border wall without congressional approval, Trump said he is within his rights to take the step. And he suggested there are alternate methods of securing funds outside of new legislation.
The Pound traded at $1.2762 against the dollar this morning. Sterling fell to 1.1074 against the Euro.
