Pound Falls After Theresa Mays’ Speech

The Pound declined 0.6% to below the 1.35 level versus Dollar after Theresa May started laying out her plans for leaving the EU.

The U.K. will have to pay something to help secure this transition period, the PM suggested to pay enough into the EU to ensure no other member will have to pay more during the current budget round ending in 2020. However, a sum was not mentioned but it is believed to be around €20bn.

The EU expects the U.K. to work out the problem of the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic once the UK departs the bloc and its customs union.

The Pound rose slightly over the weekend against the Dollar and the Euro to 1.3525 & 1.1360.

Data to look out for today.
