ECB policy makers from the euro area’s south, testified in favour of a longer continuation of asset purchases, according to people familiar with the debate.
The Governing Council members suggested enduring QE for another year after March, three months more than the longest option presented by ECB Chief Economist Peter Praet at the meeting.
The ECB decided to prolong the asset plan by nine months until December 2017, though it lowered the speed of monthly purchases to 60 billion Euros.
He also presented new forecasts that see euro-area inflation accelerating to 1.7% in 2019 from 0.2% this year.
The Pound fell against the Dollar yesterday afternoon falling to 1.2547. Sterling strengthened against the Euro, rising to 1.1854.
